10th Annual Mt. Residents Night Out
Tuesday, August 3rd; 6:00 –8:30 pm
Loma Gazebo-Playfield
The tenth Mountain Residents Night Out will be held at the Loma Gazebo-Playfield (23845 Summit Road) on August 3rd, starting at 6 pm. This community safety event is a local version of the nationwide National Night Out campaign. As in years past, there will be representation by public safety agencies like the Santa Clara and Santa Cruz County Sheriff Departments, CHP, Cal Fire and Santa Clara County Fire as well as local groups like MERC, CERT, the Loma Prieta Amateur Radio Club, and the Fire Safe Council to name a few.
Though the main focus on public safety is the same every year, there is always something new being showcased. In years past there have been bomb sniffing dogs, search & rescue teams with their dogs, SWAT teams with an armored personnel carrier, lots of fire trucks (some old and some new), a guest appearance by Smokey the Bear, and games that teach fire safety. Local volunteer groups like MERC and CERT provide emergency preparedness information. There are many activities and games, including a bounce-house for children.
If you are new to the mountain area, this is a great opportunity to meet with representatives of public safety agencies and volunteer groups that serve our community. For longtime residents, do you know the difference between MERC and CERT or what the Fire Safe Council does? Remember, an informed community is a safer community.
There is no admission fee.
Want dinner? Continuing with tradition, Nonno’s Restaurant will be serving a barbeque chicken dinner for the great price of $5. Veggie burgers are also available. Dinner tickets can be purchased in advance at the Redwood Estates Service Association office (for office hours call 353-1866) or at Nonno’s in Redwood Estates. A limited number of dinner tickets will be sold at the event.
The Loma Prieta Community Foundation and the Redwood Estates Services Association host Mountain Residents Night Out. For more and updated information go to LPCF’s website www.lpcf.net or call Mona at 353-1866 or Sue at 353-2832.
